GigAlert.com Website Privacy Policy Statement
This document was last updated on September 28, 2009.
0. PREFACE
GigAlert.com values your privacy. Doug Macklem, GigAlert.com's CEO, has been the victim of identity theft in the past and completely understands the need to keep your private information private. This is a growing crime with the ability to greatly disrupt lives. In many cases little investigation is done and seemingly less prosecution. His case was one that was never solved and barely investigated.
Please see our Staying Safe Online page for additional recommendations and references for staying safe on the Internet.

We encourage you to periodically review this privacy policy statement to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. Your continued use of the service constitutes your agreement to this privacy policy statement and any updates.
7. MEMBERSHIPS
We offer two types of website user accounts, Individual and Business. The details of our privacy policy statement for each type of account are outlined below.
Individual Accounts
- Signing up for an Individual account allows you to post a Gig. A Gig is a service you need performed by a Business account holder. Gigs range from Health & Beauty, Construction & Trades, Legal, and many other categories of services.
- Signing up for an Individual account also allows you to set up a profile to be notified when a job is posted that you may be interested in. Notifications can be sent via email or text message. You may also elect to not receive notices but view jobs matching your profile when you sign into your account.
- All services provided to Individual accounts by this site are FREE so go ahead and sign up! What are you waiting for?
- Since all Individual services are FREE you will not be asked for any financial data such as credit card information.
- GigAlert.com will only ask for your name, email address, phone number, and cell phone number (optional - required for text message notifications).
- You can change any information we collect by signing into your account and visiting the Account Management page.
- Collecting basic information helps prevent fraudulent accounts from being created.
- We perform email verification to help prevent fraud.
- All information stored in your account is password protected.
- Passwords are stored using a one-way algorithm that greatly reduces the chance that a password can be decrypted. If you forget your password a new one will be generated for you as we will be unable to decrypt your old one.
- Please protect your password and do not share it with anyone.
- You may opt-in to be notified via email or text message when a job is posted that matches your profile. We will not contact you for any reason other than this.
- To keep our site free we use one or more popular banner ad companies. They may use cookies to help serve ads. We do not share personal data with these companies or provide them access to your information.
- A key ingredient to privacy is you. When posting a gig we ask that you do not disclose any personally identifiable information in your post such as name, address, phone number, etc. Our software will anonymously notify a business of your need and will prompt the business to respond. You will then be able to view the profile of any business interested in serving your need without them knowing who you are. You will make your own decision as to whether or not you want to contact a business after you review their profile. They will not receive any of your contact information in the notification of the gig. You will always be in full control of your gig and who you want to talk to.
- When viewing a Business account profile they may provide links to external websites. Please review their privacy policies as we do not have any control over them and cannot be responsible for them.
- We may store information on accounts and gigs indefinitely.
- We use industry standard web analytics software to maximize the website experience. Data collected may include links clicked and IP addresses. We do not tie personally identifiable information to the log data. The data is only used to gauge the quality of your site experience and to maximize the site's usefulness to our visitors.
- Search engines and other sites may index GigAlert.com postings to make available to their visitors.
Business Accounts
- Business accounts will have an Individual account at their core. Please see the above Individual section as all Individual policies also apply to Business accounts. By having an Individual account a business is also allowed to post gigs for B2B services that they may require.
- Business accounts will be prompted to enter additional information in order to define the business. Information such as company address, company phone, company email, and company website. This should be the same public facing information as would be posted in any other directory or company marketing material. Do not disclose personal information, unrelated to the business, that you do not wish to share with others as the business information will be displayed to individual account holders.
- You can change any information we collect by signing into your account and visiting the Account Management page.
- A Business account can be established for FREE so go ahead and register your business! What are you waiting for?
- A Business account can respond to gigs for FREE! Free business leads are hard to beat in any economy!
- A Business account can also post gigs for FREE! Have a B2B service you need performed? Post it here.
- We offer some premium services to Business accounts for a nominal fee. These services include the posting of full-time and part-time job positions, premium search placements, and premium company profiles. These are all optional items. For these items we may temporarily collect credit card information in order to pay for these services.
- We do not store credit card information. All payment information is used once to collect the nominal fee then discarded. Credit card transaction may require name, address, phone, card number, expiration date, etc.
- All credit card transactions are transmitted over a secure gateway using SSL technology with a trusted Tier 1 merchant account provider.
- Full and part-time job postings will be syndicated to other job sites and search engines for jobs, such as Indeed.com. Posting your job position here helps you reach the broadest audience possible to find the best job candidates. Please review their privacy policies as we have no control over them. These sites reach over 15 million unique visitors per month:
